This does present some issues........

Is Ted doing it for the environment, business opportunity, or personal power?

Time will tell.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

2,000,000 acres..........

Sounds like a couple of national parks.

Could this be a legacy....Ted Turner National Refuge?

I see no problem with it. The man is entitled to ever acre he paid for. So long as he is a steward of the land he would be no different than any one else who had a lot of land. And a little caveat: he doesn't really "own" the land since he isn't a sovereign government. Only the states own the land fully thanks to some pretty old tenant laws which mean that he is essentially renting the land from the ruling body for what ever the property tax rate is in each state.

Good points PHAT Joe

I also have no issues if he buys land. Mr. Turner is entitled to buy every acre he paid (pays) for. I wish I could buy some myself.

I had heard a long time (7+ years????) ago that Ted Turner was buying up land out West to conserve and serve the land.

Quite possible he was at the time, although I don't think he's hit the altruistic point in his life, yet.

Some of that land out there is pretty cheap - page two of the article mentions $300 per acre. Ye Haw!

On the Ted Turner's recent land purchases, and the ridiculously high prices of gas that we are really focused on trying to get away from. Doesn't anyone see that he's probably going to mass market wind energy i think its only obvious and he's going to lease to energy or gas companies since they seemed to have the money to fund it. God knows our government doesn't have the money or so they say and I really don't think he gives a rats a%@ about wild life but more for money
